Official launch - Easter weekend |

Mayor encourages local church in litter pick up
Official Launch
Cornerstone Thame went public over the Easter weekend 2008, the earliest Easter since 1913 and probably one of the coldest on record. Dozens of children still turned out to a party on the Saturday
22 March at John Hampden School, encouraged along to the celebrations held in the school’s Vernon Hall after a face painting session in the centre of Thame. The party, staged in an ‘It’s a Knockout’ format led
to the children using many different skills as they tackled different challenges. The course included a mega inflatable assault course, carrying an egg and spoon across a pole, protecting real eggs dropped from great heights, as well as many other activities.
Following the All-age service at the school on Easter Sunday people were encouraged to stay and share a hog roast followed by home made apple pie, whilst the children were entertained with an Easter egg hunt. The new congregation has been welcomed by the school, and we have been able to thank them by having a work party decorate the main hall we are using.

Following the Sunday service on 29 June, attended by newly re-appointed Mayor of Thame Don Butler, members of Cornerstone, part of Long Crendon Baptist Church (LCBC), hit the streets on a mission to clean up the litter.
When asked in the service what he thought about being the Mayor, Don Butler answered, “It’s wonderful as you get to see things like today where you have a group of volunteers doing good things around the town.”
Around 40 people, made up of all ages from grandmas to grandkids, hit the streets armed with gloves, bin bags and retractable arms after the service held at John Hampden School in Park Street. “God loves Thame and we wanted to demonstrate that in a small but practical way”, says Krish Kandiah who spoke at the morning service on “What would Jesus say to Boris Johnson?”
“The litter pick was a great way to make new friends in the church and to show how following Jesus brings change in our lives and means we seek to make our world a better place to live for everyone.”
Cornerstone is a new café-style church, meeting every Sunday from 10.00am in John Hampden School, and open to all ages. Services regularly involve discussion, the use of video clips and both traditional and contemporary music.
