Boybox is backToy basket

Boybox, on 9th March, was a great opportunity for men to make a Mother's Day present with their babies/toddlers, to meet other Dads and to find out what happens at the regular Toybox sessions!
A great session, enjoyed by all.

Raising the Roof concert

Elizabeth playing her harpThe concert on Sat. 2nd March drew a full house of all ages.  The main performers, Elizabeth Law on harp and Kathy Andrews on flute, began with the well-loved Londonderry Air, followed by a more recent piece by John Rutter and some traditional Welsh folk songs.

Accompanied by Mum, Elizabeth's 10 year old daughter Hannah sang sweetly and 14 year old Samuel played the ‘cello.  Sam Mowforth played some Einaudi piano pieces  and one of Kathy’s pupils, Anna McDougal, joined her in playing duets.  There is always pleasure in hearing young peoples’ developing talents.

Kathy playing her fluteOne particular highlight was Elizabeth’s folk songs on the clarsach, the small harp on which she learnt to play.  Another one: The Flight of the Bumble Bee, which one of Kathy’s pupils had challenged her to play. This was much appreciated by the audience as its difficulty was apparent.

The concert finished with a standing ovation and raised hopes of more musical evenings.  AND £748 was raised for the Building Fund.

Spectrum Arts Exhibition and talk

On February 23rd LCBC Spectrum Arts held their first exhibition and evening talk, entitled `Easter Reflections through the eyes of an artist`.

Despite members' nervousness the exhibition of over 100 paintings looked superb and was well received with many favourable comments by the 100+ guests. Stuart Currie, Arts Evangelist for the London City Mission, directed our thoughts to the Easter event using famous paintings. Refreshments - delicious canapés - were provided by Liz Turton and served by a team of volunteers.

Church Weekend Away
May 3-6 2013

We are planning a church weekend away for 2013, this time going back to The Pioneer Centre near Cleobury Mortimer, Shropshire.  Our last weekend away was in 2008 at Hothorpe Hall in Leicestershire which was enjoyed by all who went but sadly it has become prohibitively expensive to continue going there.

For those who have not been on a church weekend Gamesaway before, the idea is to offer a programme of teaching, worship and leisure in which we can have the time and space to get to know each other better, something which is often not possible in the course of normal church life.  It is likely that we will be out of the church building by this time and it will be even more important to maintain the strength of our relationships during a time of change and upheaval.  It will also provide greater opportunity to discuss certain issues in the life of the church.

We would like everyone to come irrespective of age, disability or family situation.  There will be a children’s teaching programme that will run alongside the adult programme and there will also be family-sized rooms and disabled facilities.  The accommodation will be full board allowing us all time to enjoy the weekend without having to worry about the catering.
