History

Spurgeon visitLong Crendon Baptist Church has a continuous history since 1799, although there have been Baptists in the village since the mid-1600s. The chapel on the present site dates from 1853.

There is an interesting and varied story to tell over the years. Watch this space for instalments.

Church membership has fluctuated as conditions changed, exceeding 150 in 1865 and 1866. A century later the number of members had declined to fewer than 30. In more recent years there has been consistent growth to record levels. The church is still having to consider different ways to accommodate the numbers attending, even since launching a second congregation in Thame in 2008.
