Investigating Christianity?

Christianity Explored

Many people have found our Christianity Explored courses helpful. We run them once or twice a year, and you are welcome to join us.

Christianity Explored is a course for people who'd like to investigate Christianity.  It examines who Jesus was, what his aims were, and what it means to follow him today. It doesn't matter if you have just started coming to church, or if you've been going to church for years.  Whatever your circumstance, if you would like to find out more about Christianity and what it means to be a Christian, then this course is for you.  It provides a relaxed opportunity for you to ask any question you like or simply sit back and listen to others ask them.  It is not the sort of course where you will be asked to read aloud, never mind pray or sing.  The course runs for 8 weeks and is free with all materials provided.

If you want to know about the next course, please go to our Future Events page or contact Colin White.

Two ways to live

Two Ways to LiveSo you want to know what the Christian faith is all about? Who is Jesus and why did he come?

The message at the heart of Christianity is really quite simple - simple enough to be outlined in a few pages. It's a message from the Bible about God and his son, Jesus. It's about life and death, and the choice we all face. And it all starts with a loving creator God...

What is the Gospel?

messed upAlthough our world has much in it that we enjoy, we see brokenness all around us and you will know of brokenness in your own life. Frustration, violence, greed and pride have left our world hurting and crying out: “Why?!”. People look for answers through gaining material wealth and security, seeking pleasure and escape or pursuing different philosophies and worldviews. And yet none of these things ever get to the heart of the issue.

Our world was not created to be like this and the Gospel explains how things can be different. The Gospel centres around Jesus Christ and is the story about how God, who made the world, set about to rescue us from our brokenness.

You and I were not created to live independently of God and yet we so quickly push him out of our lives and choose to live our own way. The Bible calls this sin. It cuts us off from God and leads to broken relationships with one another. It is like a cancer that spreads and causes deep damage. Ignoring God is the root of all the problems in our world.

Jesus is the keyBecause God is perfect, we cannot know him whilst we choose to ignore him and he must punish us for our rebellion. This would leave us cut off from him, who is the source of all good things, forever.

Yet in love, God sent his Son into the world, the man Jesus Christ, and he provides an answer to the mess we are all in. God punished Jesus as a substitute for you and me and this enables us to be forgiven, know God once again and live our lives with him at the centre. Forgiveness is a gift that God offers you but you must respond!

What is a Christian?

A Christian is not a good person but a forgiven person. You are not a Christian because you go to church, know the 10 Commandments or give money to charity. To be a Christian means to trust in the Lord Jesus Christ for your forgiveness and to believe that his death in your place enables you to know God again.

When Jesus died, he was punished in our place. But three days later he rose again, smashing death to pieces! Jesus Christ in the source of all life and anyone who puts their trust in him and seeks to follow him as Lord, is given God’s Holy Spirit, who comes to live inside you. His Spirit enables you to live a life that pleases God and bit by bit, say no to sin and all that cuts us off from God. Living life as a Christian is a great privilege and joy.
